The Men's Routine

Three Essentials, Four Optional

Men's skincare gets pitched two ways: a 12-step affair nobody will actually do, or a moisturizer-only afterthought. Both miss. Three core products — cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen — done well outperform either extreme. Four optional add-ons cover the use cases (post-gym congestion, oiliness, post-shave) that earn their place.

The Extras

Optional add-ons. Each has a "when to add" trigger — none are daily-use unless the trigger fits.

— Editor's Note
Skincare-skeptical men respond best to specific outcomes: less sebum at 3 PM, fewer post-gym breakouts, no white cast in the bathroom mirror, nothing that smells like a perfume counter. The K-beauty heroes in this routine are unfragranced or barely-fragranced and beat the men's-aisle drugstore equivalents on ingredient quality. The one explicit men's-brand call-out is BULK Homme — Japan's flagship men's skincare line, built on the same minimalist J-beauty principle (fewer products, denser textures) but tuned for oilier, beard-adjacent skin.
